It’s a beautiful idea. It explains dark matter, it explains the Higgs boson, it explains some aspects of cosmology; but that doesn’t mean it’s right.
LHC results put supersymmetry theory ‘on the spot’” - As interesting and complicated as this is, for me the most remarkable point is that even one of the organisers of an upcoming supersymmetry conference is prepared to say the above. Dr Joseph Lykken of Fermilab also said “There’s a certain amount of worry that’s creeping into our discussions” and “It could be that this whole framework has some fundamental flaws…”. Admitting you’re wrong when faced with fresh, robust data?: that’s some good science! (How many politicians could do the same?) With intellectual integrity and sources of new data, perhaps science doesn’t have to advance one funeral at a time.
